Look back at a crucial strike against the Lilywhites from 1992.

Brighton 2-0 Preston
Paul Moulden
(5 Sep 1992, Division Two, Goldstone Ground)
The player
Paul Moulden had a place in the Guinness Book of Records for his goalscoring feats as a 14-year-old when he notched 289 goals in 40 league games for Bolton Lads. He broke into the Manchester City side and was top scorer when the club clinched promotion to Division One in 1989. After spells with Bournemouth and Oldham, he arrived on two-month loan deal in the summer of 1992.
The goal
Moulden has a shot charged down on the edge of the box. The ball is then half-cleared. Against the odds, a battling John Crumplin wins the loose ball, taking on the Lilywhites defence by making a beeline for the right flank. He crosses towards the near post, with Moulden back on his feet to sweetly tuck the ball home.

Why this goal mattered
The goal gave Brighton the opener in a 2-0 success. This result formed part of a fondly remembered ten-match unbeaten sequence in the autumn of 1992, with Moulden and fellow loanee Steve Cotterill proving lethal upfront. And now
Paul went on to play for Birmingham, Huddersfield and Rochdale before dropping out of league football in 1996. After retiring from the game, he opened a fish and chip shop. He has also coached at Manchester City’s academy.
