Just saw this sad news on here first. He was a genuinely lovely bloke who for a very short spell when I knew him in Taunton in the mid 80s I would have called a friend. A real cricket talent and a total cricket addict. Very very sad

I remember Sussex being on the receiving end of destructive batting during his time at Taunton. 1984 Nat West Trophy for one.

Sad news indeed. It was expected but still sad.

Last year was my 50th watching cricket and to amuse myself by making up a team of the 11 players I'd most enjoyed watching. I've watched dozens and dozens of cricketers over the years but Crowe made the team. He was an outstanding cricketer, one with all the shots - although his straight drive stood out, that was a thing of beauty.

In later life, he was a great writer, full of insights and, by all accounts, was a thoroughly nice bloke. The world of cricket is much poorer for his passing
