Would love to know how many of these 'tips' were based on a genuine belief that someone is on the fiddle, and how many are based on spite or a grudge against someone.

Can also imagine the howls of protest if a Labour government launched a 'report a tax-dodger' scheme - the Tories would be foaming-at-the-mouth about a Gestapo State of informers, and accusing Labour of resorting to Nazi tactics!

I also note that this report said that less than 1% of welfare claims are fraudulent, but the public believe that 24% of such claims are dishonest.

The sad, but predictable, consequence of repeated Tory smears (Gideon and IDS especially) and tabloid propaganda against the poor, the disabled and the unemployed - as part of the divide-and-rule strategy to divert people's attention away from the greed and corruption of the top 1%

There are a lot of nasty, bitter people around, who through faults entirely of their own making are in situations that make them rabidly jealous of anyone fractionally better off than they, perceive themselves to be. There are, also, shit loads of scroungers taking the piss. Unfortunately there are, also, many, many people in poverty traps through no fault of their own. It's these poor souls that need rescuing. If I could be confident that the extortionate taxes I pay could be directed to this section of society I would be very, very happy.

Care to be give specific examples, its all in the public domain.

Then you can put a figure of how much more you wish to give of your already 'extortionate' taxes.

It may all be legitimate, but I am aware of some who know how to play the system and are better off because of it than their siblings who work damn hard and get no help whatsoever from the state. I see it as unfair but any report would say there's nothing wrong.

Depressing stat. Less than one percent is pretty good isn't it? Can't understand why people get so worked up about 'scroungers'. What utterly foolproof system would they suggest that stops people taking the P but also means there is a safety net in place for the people that need it? I'd love to hear it.

I work, I pay taxes, it doesn't make me a superhero and I'm glad we all live in a civilised society that provides for people that need a bit of help. I'm not going to get my knickers in a twist over some scrotes siphoning some of it off when it's such a small amount of the big picture. If that's how they want to live, sod em, they probably spend a lot of time looking over their back worrying the gravy train might pull out without them at some point.

£1.6 billion

If that's a serious figure, that's nothing. Consider this:

"As a large source of untapped revenue, Corbyn points to the £120bn that is lost each year in the UK economy through a combination of uncollected tax debt (£20bn), tax avoidance (£20bn) and tax evasion (£80bn). He wants to increase spending on the HMRC by £1bn to recover some of this lost income, where experts predicts a £300m increase in spending could relate to an £8bn increase in tax revenue recovered.
Finally he wants to reduce the level of tax relief companies receive in the UK. Currently £93bn is lost from the economy by a combination of grants, subsidies and tax breaks given to large corporations each year."

£120bn tax los and £93bn tax breaks/subsidies a year make fretting over £1.6bn look very silly.

Find it very difficult to argue with that.

you might want to look in to that issue further, as its the product of people who dont understand how economics and accountancy work. things like supporting the steel mills or tax relief to support new business parks in areas of low employment would be eliminated if you stopped those grants and subsidies. very odd of the left to criticise subsidy when its a central tenet of their politics elsewhere. the tax evasion is things like companies not paying tax on investments, the black economy and figures pulled out the air. its fantasy stuff, while that 1.6bn is real that firstly p's people off, and secondly means its not going to the deserving cases.

Yet again people just reading what they want into the article. It states insufficient evidence which is not the same as not fraudulent as well as the clear not fraudulent. Therefore the headline % figure is wrong.

Quite. Benefits fraud has been an economic red-herring for years if not decades. But, it doesn't suit the Tory agenda; much better to have people-against-people than turn the spotlight on their mates in business.

Naive enough to believe that proven cases of benefit fraud equate to the real numbers of fraud taking place, typical socialist.
