Net migration to UK falls

Annual net migration to Britain dipped to 323,000 in September 2015 – 13,000 lower than the record level of 336,000 recorded last June, the Office for National Statistics has said.

The small fall in net migration provides evidence that the flow of EU migrants to work in Britain has now peaked and appears to be stabilising. The decline follows seven successive quarters – 21 months – of rises in the politically sensitive net migration figure.

The home secretary, Theresa May, responded to the new set of figures saying: “Net migration in the UK still remains too high. Immigration at this level puts pressure on public services, on housing, on infrastructure … it can hold down wages and push British workers out of jobs.”

But she said the EU deal struck by David Cameron would “clamp down on abuse of free movement” and “reduce the pull factor of our welfare system and make it easier for us to deport people who are abusing our generosity”. The 323,000 net migration figure remains more than three times the level promised by David Cameron when he pledged to reduce it to 100,000 by the time of the 2020 general election.

Marvellous Scenes. Just the extra 3 million people living here (by which I mean the South East of England) in the next ten years.

Wonderful spin from the Guardian.

Prefer the BBC

Net migration was at the second highest level for any 12-month period since comparable records began, according to the Office for National Statistics report

Employment of EU nationals - excluding British citizens - increased by 215,000 to 2 million, according to Labour Force Survey figures for October to December 2015

Employment of non-EU nationals increased by 38,000 to 1.2 million

Correct these figures don't account for the numbers of illegals who have managed to gain entry to this country. That article was is in The Guardian, it was completely different to the articles across all the other papers which said it had actually gone up.

Wasn't there 500,000 NI numbers given out the previous year as figures out suggest a cover up?
The thing that baffles me with our system is the asylum seekers who're left hanging around for years and can't work...some also have been rejected asylum and have been here up to 20 years lol
Really is facked here in dealing with these cases

That's because the Guardian and it's lefty delusional readers think illegal immigrants are the victims of the nasty British immigration policy and should not be labelled as anything, especially 'illegal' .....in case it hurts their feelings!

Couldn't the figures suggest a huge outflow of people, rather than a decrease in those coming in? Although I guess "Number of people in the country" is the important element for planning infrastructure etc...

Clearly indicates how much this country has lost control of our borders!
Bullshit government targets on immigration, then when it horrendously fails says it can't stop immigrants from the EU coming here and now pedals how we should stick with the EU because it's the best thing for Britain......What a load of shit.....best for nobody but the foreign parasitic sponges flocking here! So they can send British taxpayers money back to their kids in their own country!!!
And don't think about trying to deport any of them even after they've committed a serious crime because blood sucking bottom feeders like Cherie Blair and Amal Cloony with make sure the good old Human Rights Act ensures they stay here at the tax payers expense!!!!
