This was posted on the Goldstone Ground facebook page, but worth repeating here I think...

24/02/1976
Brighton 2 Crystal Palace 0 (Morgan 2)
Division Three
Attendance 33,300

Who was there? I remember being on a massively packed East Terrace. Only my second game - cracking atmosphere, over 33,000 for a 3rd Division fixture!

Here's a scan of that night's programme (didn't realise Ron Challis was the ref!):

I was,in the North directly behind the goal

remember Morgan's 2nd clearly to this day,a side foot from about 3 yards out

think it's only fair to warn people

the link does contain an image of the said Ron Challis

I was there in the seats (well benches!) of the South Stand with my Dad.

That game is one of my earliest Albion memories - I think it was the night our Seagulls nickname was born as the North Stand sang "Seagulls" back in response to Palace's "Eagles" chant.

Yep, I've heard that as well. It was the night we became the Seagulls...

was it all ticket?

palace games were the only all ticket games back then

wish I'd kept the stubs now

remember my old man keeping them behind the clock on the mantelpiece

I'd keep checking they were still there

really was a novelty back then,to actually NEED a ticket for a Brighton game

Pretty sure that match wasn't all ticket, but I think all the subsequent Palace games in the 70s were.

Was just about to post this when I saw your post.

My father gave me this ticket and I've had it in a scrapbook since.
Not sure if the match was all ticket.

I try to tell Wrong Direction what it was like in the days of yore :drink:

I was twenty and had only recently been kissed

As normal I got in early on the Chicken Run only for some 7ft fecker to meander down five minutes before kick off and park himself in front of me :moo:

I looked on a few websites to find out how much 70p in 1976 would be today. Quite surprised to see it ranges from only £3 odd to £5.25 in today's money.

Therte's no mention in the previous programmes of it being all ticket and I can't remember it being so.

That would account for the ridiculous crowding wround the North.

A couple of years later, when we had those two 30,000 plus gates in 4 days, they weren't all-ticket either

Bonkers
