Brighton manager Chris Hughton hailed his team's performance at Ashton Gate.
Chris Hughton has described Brighton's 4-0 win at Bristol City as their 'most complete performance' of the season as they bounced back to winning ways in style on Tuesday evening.
Two goals in both halves ended City's three-game winning streak and inflicted their first defeat under head coach Lee Johnson.
For Hughton, it was the perfect response to Saturday's 4-1 hiding at Cardiff City and the Brighton boss had nothing but praise for his players.
He said: "I was delighted the penalty didn't go in at the end because it would have put a damper on a near perfect team performance.
"We had to improve because the display at Cardiff wasn't good enough. Bristol have been in good form and we only won comfortably because we did everything right.

"It was as complete a performance as we have put in all season. We are not a team who scores a lot of goals so to get four was very pleasing.
"The first one settled any nerves and from the on it was a top effort from all the players. Bruno came off at half time, but the positive is that it is a kick on the back of the knee rather than a strain."
Jamie Murphy fired the visitors into an eighth-minute lead, capitalising on a mistake by young defender Zak Vyner to burst into the box on the left and beat Richard O'Donnell with a low finish.

Sam Baldock doubled the advantage against his old club on 21 minutes, playing neat one-two before taking the ball along the edge of the 18 yard line and finding the bottom corner with a fine right-footed shot.
The result was put beyond doubt on 56 minutes when Tomer Hamed toe-poked the third from close range, having got behind Vyner, who will have learned much from his home debut.
And City's misery was completed when they failed to defend a 75th-minute corner. Substitute James Wilson was allowed a free header at the far post and the ball went in off defender Mark Little.

To make matters even worse the home side missed a golden chance of a late consolation, substitute Kieran Agard blazing over from the spot after being fouled by Beram Kayal.
Johnson pulled no punches when discussing his side's performance, and said he required more character from his team.
"It was a frustrating night," he said. "We huffed and we puffed to try and blow their house down, but theirs was made of brick and ours was made of paper.
"It disappointed me that we ran out of ideas after Brighton's first goal and there are no excuses. We weren't good enough on the night.

"There is a positive in the fact that the bottom three all lost and another round of games has gone by, but we want to be looking up the table.
"If we are to kick on this season and next I need to see that there is the required character in the team. We cannot capitulate after one goal.
"Brighton were solid in front of their goal and clinical in our box. We have to give respect and credit to them."
