Speaking after Albion’s 4-1 defeat to Cardiff City, assistant manager Colin Calderwood looked ahead to Tuesday night’s match with Bristol City and spoke about the need for a reaction, assessed the areas for improvement, and the progress made by the Robins.Colin Calderwood

A reaction: “It’s important to win one of them [three away games] and we’re giving ourselves a last chance to do it, so we’ve got to spike ourselves into a good reaction from the weekend.

“A victory would obviously help greatly, but we’ve got to show more than what we did at the weekend.

“We’ve got to find out what we did at Hull and more of what we did at home. There’s not as much disappointment from losing a game if you can bounce back with a victory.

“We will be able to get a reaction, but we’ve got to have the attitude and application to get us on the front foot and certainly be in the game for a longer period.

“We’ve got work to do and the reaction is always the thing that you look for.”

Areas for improvement: “You don’t want it [defeat] to happen. But it just highlights the importance of certain situations; to do better in one-v-ones, to do better as a group and sometimes the only thing that brings it into the limelight is a result like the Cardiff one.

Bristol City’s progress: “Steve [Cotterill] left and it has gone along quite nicely for them and he [new head coach Lee Johnson]* hasn’t dramatically changed anything.
“They’ve been worthy opponents for much of the season and it will be a good atmosphere there. It always is at Bristol, but we want to travel back feeling better about ourselves.
“If that happens, then we’ll have obviously have done better than Saturday and that’s what we want to do.”
