Looks like Paul Daniels is about to join the sad roll call of stars taking their final curtain in 2016 following the announcement of 'an incurable and terminal brain tumour'. Maybe few will own up to being a fan as such, but a talented light entertainer who will be remembered by millions who tuned in to his popular TV shows.

I never thought much of Paul Daniels until I went to a Lords Taverners pro-celebrity golf day about 15 years ago at Mannings Heath. Can't remember much about the golf other than thinking that drinking vintage cider was a good idea and I wasn´t completely concentrating at the dinner afterwards.

But Paul Daniels came on as the cabaret and absolutely brought the house down. He was brilliant!

Not only did I think so in my semi-inebriated state, so did the whole audience.

And when you consider that they included people like Bruce Forsyth, Jimmy Tarbuck, Kenny Lynch etc that tells you just how good he was. He had these people in stitches.
