Any idea why the hotel rooms are so pricey ???

It will just be simple supply and demand. Bristol doesn't have that many hotels when it comes down to it, so there are just nights, sometimes, where there is nothing decent available short of £150-£200.

I've stayed in The Bristol, often, for £99 incl. breakfast and parking (the latter normally being £20+) and The Radisson Blu for a similar amount. I've even stayed in the Hotel du Vin for around £120 per night. Tomorrow night looks like one of those nights where even the Premier Inns look expensive!

Our travelodge is twice the price I usually pay and I booked it before xmas

With the gentrification of Southville, you'd be fine at the Tobacco Factory or Hen & Chicken etc.

The Pump House more a gastro pub than a pub pub but, yes, plenty of pubs in that area.

North Street in Bedminster/Southville has got some really decent pubs, especially if you are keen on cider, real ale or craft beer - The Steam Crane, Spotted Cow and The Hare to name but three (to give a kind of idea of what they offer, the last couple of times I visited The Hare they had Dark Star and Burning Sky on tap). All of these are about 15-20 minutes walk from Ashton Gate.

Have to admit, I'm not sure what any of their policies are on away fans though, though I'm sure I have seen home and away fans drinking in the Tobacco Factory down the road (and closer to the ground) on a matchday this season.

Gentrification only in the sense that the students have all grown lovely hipster beards....much the same other than that Darren.

Carrot Cruncher & I enjoyed the delights of one of the Travelodges last time around. Not sure of the exact address but it was pretty close to BTM. Think we paid about £40 per room, for a Tuesday night, probably at a similar time of year?

I think it may be a Jeremy Corbyn fund raiser at the Colston Hall,... including Billy Bragg..... hotels have whacked prices up to fleece the champagne socialists of their ill gotten gains.

On 12.00 from Paddington - expected to win on Saturday and it made it even worse when we didn't. Am back to my usual state of "no idea what will happen" now, so that's better. Will still be gutted if we come away without 3 points though, even allowing for their recent good form.

Trundling through southern England on the slow train from Waterloo. Very pleasant 'road' trip so far.
