Manchester United are unlikely to recall James Wilson from loan despite Wayne Rooney’s knee ligament damage.
Rooney is out for up to two months after suffering the injury against Sunderland on Saturday.
It leaves Louis van Gaal with only Anthony Martial, Memphis Depay and Will Keane as recognised strikers - but the Dutchman has no plans to cut short Wilson’s loan at Brighton.
Asked if Rooney’s absence could lead to the 20-year-old striker’s return, the United manager said: “No. At this point I can call James Wilson back, but at this point I have possibilities with Will Keane and Anthony Martial.
