Is it true that professional footballers banging girlfriends/wives/boyfriends the night before they are due to play affects their performance on the pitch or is this an old wives tale?

I would have thought if you were hanging out the back of charlies daughter the night before it would depend on how much effort you put in.
Surely romping home in a position that is likely to cause an injury is more of a concern.
