  • Albion progress to the fourth round of the SSE FA Women’s Cup
  • The Seagulls make it nine wins in a row with victory over Women’s Super League 2 (WSL 2) side Oxford United
  • Charlotte Gurr and Kate Natkiel both score hat-tricks
  • The victory is Brighton’s biggest win of the season
The win was Albion’s ninth in a row and means the Seagulls have scored 17 goals in their last two SSE FA Women’s Cup matches.
Brighton could not have hoped for a better start when Deanna Cooper’s ball caught out the Oxford defence and put Amy Taylor through on goal. The Albion striker kept her nerve and slotted home to give the hosts the lead inside two minutes.
Brighton’s determination to prove they can play at a higher level was illustrated by their play early on, after they doubled their lead in the seventh minute. Jay Blackie’s pass across the face of goal found Sophie Perry, who finished from close range.
The Albion attack never let up and it was 3-0 when Kate Natkiel’s deflected shot beat Hannah Cox in the Oxford goal after 27 minutes.
Albion had their fourth goal four minutes later when Charlotte Gurr shot past Cox after being played through by Taylor.
Brighton continued to dominate their WSL 2 opponents after the interval and soon extended their lead to five. Charley Boswell beat a United defender and laid it on a plate for Taylor to grab her second of the afternoon.
Gurr, Taylor, and Kate Natkiel all had chances to add to extend Albion’s lead, but the woodwork and Cox combined on multiple occasions to keep them at bay.
