Should Brentford have had a penalty

Son reckons the tackle by Dunk in the 1st half should have been a penalty 100% From my seat I didnt think so.

Shot was got away cleanly before the foul, but then the one Greer gave away, was it against Burnley away ? The guy had already crossed it before the foul and the penalty was given. So if that is the law, then it is a penalty, if it isn't, Greer's shouldn't have been. Hope that clears it up !!!

Similar situation to the pen at Derby. He got the shot away before the tackle but it was a desperate lunge and as they say 'seen them given'.

Did anyone see the Dunk header in the second half from a corner? Almost had his shirt ripped off by their defender; just as bad as the penalty he gave away against Burnley.

Yes I saw that, as it was almost in front of me.

No Brentford shouldn't have had a penalty. The ball was played before the player went down.

This happened right in front of me, both the link and ref had a good view, nailed on penalty

Dunk got there as quickly as he could! To be fair, after his one moment of poor concentration (again) I thought he was very good last night - a decent pairing with Goldson.

It was 100% a pen. People around us said it wasn't a penalty because the ball had gone?! If anything that makes it more of a penalty because it was so late!

Should have been a pen but swings and roundabouts, Dunk should never have had a penalty awarded against him v Burnley(?). So take the rough with the smooth.

Fouled after the shot. We were a split second from a Dunk clanger, mind.

Do those that think it was a penalty also think that Wilson should have had a penalty after the sliding clearance / tackle that brought him down after the defender cleared it in the 2nd half (or a free kick to them for a foul by Wilson on their defender if not?)

Whether a penalty is given isn't really related to whether a shot is taken or not, but whether it was a foul or not. The shot being taken or not would factor into whether the player gets a red card for 'denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity'.

Nothing to say that you have to have the ball to be fouled (otherwise an elbow in the face when jumping for a 50:50 would not even be a foul). This was a pen IMO and Dunk was lucky.

So as Wilson was tripped by the defender clearing the ball when he was through on goal, using your posted information, was that a penalty then?

Clearly it was actually a piece of good defending by the Brentford player and not a penalty, but if people are saying that Dunks slide to try to block the shot which their player then may or may not have made contact with due to their follow through, why isn't it the same for Wilson or maybe a foul by Wilson on their defender?

Or is this part the key to why is wasn't a penalty:
"a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force" - was Dunks attempt to block any of these - I don't believe so (did Sky say they thought it was a penalty or highlight it as a controversial moment from the match?)
