The Scotch have to do something to stop their mounting debt.

Brave for an opposition party to call for a tax increase and it will be interesting to see if the SNP come up with a plan themselves.

I was hoping they'd win independence as they are leeches on us English.

GDP based on PPP per capita GDP = Scotland is actually on a par with Norway who sit 6th Richest in the world.

Granted they would not be at the moment because of low oil prices but to suggest a country with a 5m population burdens a country with a country with a 65m population is not truly bourne out.

the 2nd richest country in the world behind Qatar Per head of population in relation to GDP is actually Luxembourg. Small populated countries are never really poor countries, especially if they currently have good infrastructure in place.

under the Barnett formula Scotland gets about 17-18% more spending per head than England. everytime a policy or spending plan is implemented, Scotland ensure they look over the numbers and get their extra chunk. spend money on roads or schools in Suffolk or Berkshire? have to include top up the Scottish budgets appropriately. i'd call that a burden. its a source of bemusment that the SNP bang on about how poor they are treated by Westminster, how they need this extra funding for their local services and pet projects, when they have the power to raise income tax and dont use it.

Take away the £1,800 per head we give them then what is it?

That would only be even remotely true if British oil belonged to Scotland, which it doesn't.

Given that the average worker in scotland works about 0.5 % less than a worker in England due to having an extra bank holiday, I think it's fair that they pay a bit more tax.
