Britain's Johanna Konta won with a straight-sets win over China's Zhang Shuai in the quarter-finals.
The unseeded 24-year-old is through winning 6-4 6-1 to become the first British woman to reach a Grand Slam semi-final since Jo Durie in 1983

John Pilger was seen in the crowd cheering her on

It's all very bitter sweet. The LTA are an appalling governing body who do nothing for the development of the game in this country - nothing ever changes. We are just lucky that Konta been naturalised here.

Well put, can't get that excited. Though it is fun teasing my Ozzie friends we stole one of their best, if she won the Ozzie Open that would be funny

The LTA is still a bit of an old boys club really isn't it? They seem to be torn between tradition and taking British tennis to the next level.

Not knowing much about her, would the LTA have helped her development once she got to the UK, or would she have done it all privately?

Agreed, Andy Murray's development had nothing to do with the LTA. He had to move to Barcelona at the age of 15 just to train properly.

The LTA is just another self serving old boys network.

If she was one of their best when she moved here 10 years ago then that says a lot about Australian ladies tennis. She was ranked 145 just last year!!!

That was more down to her being injured than being rubbish. Look at Laura Robson's rankings drop due to injury: Highest ranking 27 (8 July 2013), Current ranking 741 (9 January 2016).

Absolutely this.

Tennis players succeed in this country in spite of the LTA, not because of them.

Shambolic organisation, just concerned with their own egos, thinking that a (financially) successful Wimbledon tournament is the be-all and end-all.

Congratulations are in order for her and the 2M's..perhaps it would be good to concentrate on something positive in the immediate aftermath of her triumph

The next-best two Brit ladies, of course, are Aussie-born Laura Robson, and Heather Watson - born in the channel islands to a Papua New Guinean mother, then raised and trained in Florida (taking the top ranking from Ukrainian-born Elena Baltacha (RIP)

Shambles.

Have the LTA had anything to do with any of our top players?

Jamie Murray's single career was ruined by the LTA according to his mother and that is why they took Andy overseas.

The LTA could do worse than giving Judy Murray the top job

Bloody immigrant.

The last FIVE ladies number 1's are:

Konta (2 x Hungarian parents / born Australia)
Watson (Papua NG / Brit / Guernsey)
Robson (2 x Australian / Australia)
Baltacha (2 x Ukrainian / UK)
Keothavong (Laos / Brit / UK)
