Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-21s played out a thoroughly entertaining goalless draw with West Bromwich Albion at the Checkatrade.com Stadium.
Coach Simon Rusk named a relatively experienced line-up for the match, as Christian Walton, Glen Rea, Rohan Ince and Richie Towell all started the game.

West Brom started the livelier of the two sides, as Rahis Nabi saw his shot blocked before Rea made a strong defensive header to keep out a dangerous cross from Tyler Roberts.

Roberts was involved in the thick of the action again after he ran into space, but saw his subsequent strike go over the bar.

Tahvon Campbell then raced down the byline for the visitors, but his ball into the box was cleared away by Tom Dallison.

James Tilley had two quick-fire chances to put Albion in front, the first of which was a free-kick which hit the side netting, while the second effort forced a low save from Jack Rose, before Daniel Akindayini fired the follow-up wide.

Nabi had arguably the best chance of the half, but Walton made himself big to deny the midfielder and force the ball behind for a corner.

The ever threatening Roberts almost saw his looping cross-shot creep in under the crossbar, but Walton recovered well to claim the ball.Jonathan Leko was next to surge forward for the Baggies with a driving run down the right, but his subsequent effort went over the bar.
Albion became more threatening as the second half wore on, as Towell linked up well with Jack Harper but the latter’s left-footed strike went over the target.
Harper then laid the ball off for Ince inside the box, but his shot was blocked by the Baggies defence.
Tilley caused the West Brom rearguard plenty of problems with his mazy dribbling and his deflected shot almost caught out Rose.
The Seagulls came close to claiming all three points when Tilley’s excellent delivery was played towards Towell, but Rose made a fine stop and received a minor knock for his exploits.
There was still time for more drama in the closing stages, as Rea headed wide from Tilley’s corner and Walton made an excellent stop to keep out Campbell’s strike, but the spoils were shared.
