New signing Richie Towell is pushing for a place in Albion’s Championship plans.
The prolific League of Ireland midfielder made his debut in last Saturday’s FA Cup exit at Hull in a makeshift side named by Chris Hughton.
Towell was not in the 18-man squad for Tuesday’s defeat at Rotherham, the first League game he was eligible for since completing a move from Dundalk.
Hughton said: “He’s pushing. The difficulty you have with someone coming in at the time Richie did – when you are playing a lot of games – is that the type of training can be quite sporadic, not so many 11’s v 11’s.
“Certainly day to day he’s done very well and has settled in very well. Of course, it’s about bridging that gap between the level that he’s been playing and this level.
“At the moment he’s looked very good in training.
“We brought him in because of what he has showed over the last couple of seasons at the level that he has played and he’s certainly pushing to be involved.”
Today’s rivals Blackburn have won three, drawn three and lost three matches since Paul Lambert, succeeded by Hughton at Norwich, took charge.

Lambert’s squad includes former Albion wingers Elliott Bennett and Craig Conway, together with ex-transfer target Ben Marshall.Hughton said: “In (Jordan) Rhodes, who hasn’t got the goals of late that he is used to getting, they’ve got one of the best strikers in the division.
“With Conway, Elliott and Marshall you’d expect them to get a lot of crosses into the box.
“It’s never been an easy game at Blackburn and I certainly wouldn’t expect one.”
