We're looking for hardness. We all have different definitions but please take into account more than just size. Please. Don't discount it but be aware that there are other facets that go into it. We want pound for pound hardness.
You have one vote. Use it wisely. Only three are guaranteed to go through.
Group D combatants:
Orca
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killer_whale
A former champion and two time finalist to kick the group off. The Orca is more familiarly known as the Killer Whale, so with it's nomenclature it's already off to a positive start. What does it bring to the WHC table? Size and power mostly It's preposterously large and as a result shits in the face of everything it meets in the ocean. They have Great White Sharks for dinner. One reported case tells of an Orca who killed a GWS, ate its liver and then left the carcass, so little respect it had for the killing of a GWS.
Malayan Sun Bear
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_bear
This is the MSB'S second year in the competition. It failed to make any progress last year but has caused quite a stir in the nominations thread. Can it capitalise on that and go deep in the competition? You'll have to decide. Some facts for you to chew upon: it's the smallest of the bears and eats mostly insects. It is, however, big on aggression and will attack for no reason going for its victims head with its long, sickle shaped claws and powerful jaws. It is feared amongst the locals of South East Asia as much as bigger, more traditional hard beasts like the tiger.
Jaguar
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaguar
The Jaguar is making its debut in the WHC. The Cats really struggle to make an impression in this tournament so it's got its work cut out if it wants to succeed. What's it got that will help it progress to the knockout rounds? Well, first off it's an apex predator. Nothing hunts the Jaguar, it hunts them. It is a stalk and ambush predator that has an exceptionally powerful bite which it uses to crunch through it's victims skull and destroy its brain. Its bite is strong enough to pierce through armoured reptiles skin/shell so even if you bring some armour to the fight you're shit out of luck.
Cone Snail
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cone_snail
Yes the cone snail is a snail. A sea snail. But it is a predatory snail. One with harpoon like structures that it shoots out at its victim and injects with venom. It has a number of these 'harpoons' which t can shoot in any direction and the venom is so strong it can prove fatal to humans.
Salt Water Crocodile
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saltwater_crocodile
Oh Sheee-it, this group just got serious. The Salt Water Croc is a four times finalist and reigning champion of the WHC. It has never been knocked out before the semi finals. Let me tell you why. It's a prehistoric monster. The largest living lizard and the largest terrestial and riparian predator in the world. It's an apex predator. It's been around since the dinosaurs(surviving whatever cataclysmic event saw those fellas off). It has the highest pound for pound bite force of an animal in the world(more powerful than the estimated bite force of the T-Rex...). It will kill you on land or in water. It has its own killing move(the death roll) and it can survive unhindered by missing limbs. It is armour plated and will fight anything that comes in it's territory. And it looks f@kking scary. That's why.
Sea Horse
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seahorse
The Sea Horse is the second WHC debutante in group D. It probably wishes it wasn't drawn in a group with two Champions but thems the breaks. If you want to be the best you gotta beat the best. So what has the Sea Horse got in its locker? Er, I'm not sure. Wiki hasn't helped me there, so whoever nominated and seconded it you need t get campaigning otherwise the Seahorse is in for an inglorious first WHC campaign.
Dog Whelk
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dog_whelk
The Dog Whelk is another predatory snail. Sometimes the WHC draw can be cruel and for the predatory snail loving fans having both their contestants drawn in the same group must be their worst nightmare come true... But shit happens in a random draw so the Dog Whelk and the cone snail will just have to duke it out and hope that there are enough snail lovers to see them through. So what is different about the Dog whelk when compared to the cone snail? It's method of murder for a start. The Dog Whelk has a foot that secrets a shell softening enzyme onto its victims body/shell. It then drills through the shell, injecting a paralysing poison into its victims flesh which it then eats at its leisure. Nice.
Shrew
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shrew
The shrew looks a little like finger mouse(for those of you of a certain age). It is the only combatant to have a Shakespeare play named after it. Despite being tiny little things they are voracious eaters(thus needing to hunt continually) and ferociously territorial and aggressive- the only time they come together is to,er, come together(copulate, if you didn't get my poor attempt at a pun). If a rival should enter a shrews territory a fight will ensue. Because of their constant need to eat they are elite hunters and will attack, kill and eat animals up to twice their size by either injecting venom(yes, they can be venomous) or more usually crushing the base of their victims skull.
Colossal Squid
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colossal_squid
An aptly named contestant, the Colossal squid being a colossally sized squid. Up to 14 metres in length and 750kg in weight. They have barbed hooks all along their tentacles. Not a lot is known about the C.S, but fortunately one of them posts on NSC, so any questions please direct them to Colossal Squid.
