Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-21s recorded an emphatic 5-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers, in a behind-closed-doors friendly at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre on Monday.
*
A Ragnar Mar-Larusson hat-trick and a brace from Daniel Akindayini sealed a resounding win and coach Simon Rusk praised his side’s attacking performance.
*
He told seagulls.co.uk, “I thought QPR had a decent side out, so it was a good test for us and I thought the boys showed a real clinical element in the game. I was really happy with that display.
*
“We’ve had some tough games lately and it was nice for the boys to get a really good win under their belts.
*
“Every game we play in the category one league is really challenging, but in terms of getting results and wins, it’s been tough.
*
“In every game there have been big positives, so it’s nice to have a match where your positive aspects are rewarded with goals. That was the case yesterday and it was pleasing to get five.”

The match featured goalkeeper Christian Walton and defensive midfielder Glen Rea, after the pair returned from their loan spells at Plymouth and Southend respectively.
*
“Christian and Glen did really well for us yesterday and it’s nice that two of our under-21 players, who have been out on loan, have come back into the group.
*
“Their experience of going out on loan showed. Glen has made excellent progress this year. He came into the group and his presence can be a powerful thing. The same goes for Christian. It was nice to have them in and around the group.
*
“It’s excellent for our younger players to see their journey and see where they are at this moment in time. They have slotted straight back into the group, have exemplary attitudes and both put in accomplished displays.”
*
Albion also had under-18 players Jayson Molumby and James Tilley in the starting line-up, and Rusk was happy to give the youngsters another chance to impress.
*
“Jayson Molumby was playing again and James Tilley started. QPR didn’t have any scholars playing, so it’s pleasing to blood our younger ones and pick up an impressive result. That’s really important for us.”
*
ALBION: Walton; Hunt, Dallison, Molumby (Harris 60), Barnett; Hutchinson, Rea, Collar (Akindayini 45); Mar-Larusson (Deen 76), Harper (Starkey 60), Tilley.
