Albion drew a sixth blank and suffered a first away defeat of the season as they lost 2-0 at Rotherham.
They trailed to a Danny Ward volley just before half-time, then had chances to level in the second period.
However their improvement failed to bring reward and their hopes of a comeback were killed off when Matt Derbyshire struck late.
They also lost Gordon Greer to another injury.
Their six games without a goal equals a club record and is their worst such drought since 1970.
The only bright spot of a tough evening was a super debut on the right by the lively Anthony Knockaert.

Albion were mainly on the defensive in the first half but looked like surviving without any real scare until the 45th minute. Then Lewis Dunk slipped as he tried to clear Joe Mattock’s cross and Danny Ward punished him with a superb volley.
Dale Stephens sent a one-on-one wide after the break and Bobby Zamora, on as sub, headed a pinpoint Bruno cross wide when well placed.
Knockaert’s free-kick curled over the wall forced Lee Camp into a diving save to his left.
But hopes of a point were ended when Liam Ridgewell lost possession, Bruno made a mess of dealing with the resulting cross and Derbyshire pounced.
Albion hit the post late on as Knockaert's cross was touched on by Kayal but the contest was over by then.
