Scoring too few or leaking too many?

Just been reading the top positions on the Championship Table.

The conventional view on the Albion seems to be that our defence is reasonably sound but we lack goal scorers, and that is certainly how it feels watching matches.

However, of the top four clubs;

We have scored 31 goals,
Middlesbrough 34,
Derby 37
Hull 36

We have conceded 25
Middlesbrough only 12
Derby15
Hull 18

So our scoring isn't too bad by comparison, our defence does appear the more suspect area.

Emotionally that does feel like a rubbish assessment I have to confess.

It's a hangover from last year when we truly had a stingy defense.

Bit of both, but more of a defensive problem (at least up to the Boro game). Two goal leads thrown away too many times.

I made this exact point on another thread the other day. The reality is its a bit of both - our goals have dried up at exactly the same time as we've started to concede even more. A lot of those goals conceded, afterall, are in the last 6-7 games.

If we let goals in at home like we did against Ipswich and Wolves, the opposition will defend in depth and make it difficult for us to score. Many of the recent goals we have conceded have been moments of stupidity and that is really where the problems lie. Cut them out, as we must, and results will improve.
