Drop ball question

Following their goalkeeper's 'injury' towards the end of the game the ref restarted with a drop ball - why didn't we contest it?

Because he had it in his possession when he feigned injury.

Because all hell would have broken loose.
It's one of the "unwritten rules" - goalie catches ball and is injured but holds onto the ball, ref stops play so has to be a drop ball restart, ref drops ball to keeper and attacking team don't contest. The fact that the WW keeper was a time-wasting a-hole is seemingly not important.

I thought we should have contested. Even if the goalie just caught it a striker on the scene would have prevented the continued time wasting. Rolling to his own feet then not kicking it until Manu (I think) closed him down was rude in that context.
