Connor Goldson has been earmarked for his full Albion debut in the FA Cup - as long as he is not needed before then.
Chris Hughton has pencilled in Goldson as a starter for the third round trip to Hull on January 9 following his debut in place of the injured Uwe Huenemeier in the last half-hour of Saturday's 3-0 home defeat by Middlesbrough.
Huenemeier is sidelined by a groin strain but Lewis Dunk is back from a ban to partner skipper Gordon Greer at Brentford on Boxing Day, so Goldson will be on the bench again.
Hughton, referring to the Hull tie which follows League matches at home to Ipswich and Wolves, said: "Certainly he would be one that deserves it, because he has trained very well and is desperate to be involved.
"It was a tough game to come into (Boro) but he'll be better for that, even for the short period of time that he played."
Goldson, 23, bought from Shrewsbury for £600,000 in August, was regular for them in League One and League Two.
Hughton said: "We're really looking for that opportunity to see him in games but we've been delighted with him.
"Of course, the meaningful assessments will be after seeing him in games and that's been the balance for him.
"He's come up a level, into a different environment, and he's been good in training and around the place, but he was used to playing week in week out.
"That part has been difficult but I think he's in a good learning period of his career. He has been on the bench quite a few times, so it's about waiting for that opportunity to arise."
