... suffered the following injuries in battle: 36 soldiers lost an eye, 35 lost an ear, 40 lost a leg and 42 lost an arm.

What is the minimum number of soldiers who must have lost all four?
Are they regular or TA ?

Definitely 3:

50 soldiers: 36 soldiers lost an eye, 35 lost an ear, 40 lost a leg and 42 lost an arm.

36 lost an eye
15 didn't lose an ear, leaves minimum of 21 who lost an eye and ear
10 didn't lose a leg, leaves minimum of 11 who lost an eye, ear and leg
8 didn't lose an arm, , leaves minimum of 3 who lost an eye, ear, leg and arm

Or 36+35+40+42 = 153 injuries divided by 50 soldiers leaves 3 each with a remainder of 3, so has to be minimum 3.

Interesting.
I added all the remainders from the categories which adds to 47, which leaves a remainder of three. That's how I arrived at my answer.
