Tooth Implants

Turning to NSC for advice & experiences.

My front upper right tooth has been loose for about 5 years [gum disease + short roots] and a cricket ball in the chops last June has made things worse.
Its now got to the point where it is too unstable to bite through eg a biscuit. Not been able to bite into an apple for years.

So, good folk of NSC, who has had a dental implant, what was your experience, are there some specific questions I need to ask and lastly, how much did you pay and was this matched to the quality / service treatment you received.

I had 7 implants about 6 years ago: expensive, but worth it if you can afford it in my opinion. I used Vital Europe: they have a surgery near Oxford Circus, but any extensive treatment is carried out in Budapest. They are not the cheapest but seem to have a good reputation. 7 implants and 2 crowns cost about £14k.

Best thing I ever did but YES expensive. You might need to check if they will work for you if you have gum disease though because if they fail, it is a lot of money to lose

Was very happy with the service I recieved through Southern Dental, forgot the guys name but he works across Sussex for them. About 1500 quid all in for the same tooth as yours.

Plus the nurse who works at Tooth Smart Hove (where the work was done) is an absolute TREAT.

Not off the bat

, it was the last ball of the first over of the innings and went through to the keeper, who through it to slip, who through it to me a mid wicket - only [as skipper] I was looking at and talking to the young bowler sharing the new ball who had been fielding at square leg. As I turned, it hit me full on the end of the nose / top lip. Never saw it coming and no shout - just like taking a punch in a crowed bar on a Saturday night - no idea it was coming - BANG! Claret everywhere ....... :angry:

I had three upper right ones knocked out in 93, finally had the 4K saved to replace the annoying denture I had put up with for 14 years to be told there wasn't enough bone for implants, so went down the bridge route, only problem is it will need replacing after 10 years.

I had one of my lower molars replaced with an implant by an implant specialist from Brighton. The whole process took a long time - probably about a year - because he was performing a monthly clinic here in Steyning. It would have been considerably less time if I had been prepared to drive to his clinic in Brighton.

£2,500 - a first class job. The only thing is that with an implant you have to floss a bit more carefully around it because the gap between it and the next teeth is a fraction bigger so easier for food to stick.

Been googling on this and many now offer bone graft as part of the implant insertion procedure where jaw bone has eroded.
Anyone had bone graft with implant? Been told 4-6 months to settle /bond / grow before crown [tooth] can be added.

I go to Tooth Smart. They are great dentists.

I had a bone graft, that was an interesting process. Took bone from my lower jaw and used that and some cement type stuff which had to fuse (wore a plate in the meantime). Not sure how long that was made to bond, possibly three months. Cost an extra 400 quid.

Indeed the bone graft was suggested with bone from hip but the dentist said it was fifty fifty if the graft would work, the jaw was fractured and shattered bone removed in the early 90's

If in doubt about an implant or the cost of it enquire about Valplast which is a partial denture but so much better than the traditional ones. They are flexible and very comfortable you don't even know it's there. Implants can require a lot of investigation work to see if you are suitable to have them and may involve bone grafts.

Cheaper option is to have a fake tooth which is clipped/cemented to the ones either side, I had one fitted a couple of years ago after having my bottom row of teeth knocked out!

My son rugby tackled a traffic bollard in the summer, and snapped his front tooth. The tooth died, and needed to be removed. At the moment he has a denture, with the implant booked for January.

All in, about £2000...

Our dentists, the Brunswick Surgery, were, as always, excellent.

I have got implants for my front upper and lower. I kept getting abscesses and loosing the teeth. Not cheap but worth it as generally trouble free and no nerves to jangle.

However, you have to be scrupulous with your cleaning as food can get down side of implants and cause some infection.

I went to what is now Oasis in Carden Avenue. Patcham.
