Fewer goals in the Championship

Seems to me that there are not a lot of goals about this season - few high scoring games, scoring even three is a rarity. Goals Per Game is low. A lot of draws.

Reviewing first 20 games this season with first 20 in previous four seasons shows this is indeed the case (couple of seasons were a game or two less). Already 66 goals fewer than last season, and 134 fewer than 12/13.

goals GPG % draws
15/16 566 2.36 34%
14/15 632 2.60 32%
13/14 616 2.58 29%
12/13 700 2.92 23%
11/12 626 2.63 24%

Only Fulham (68 goals) are averaging over 3 GPG. Albion are bang on average GPG, the other promo contenders lower. Preston most boring team (32). Unsuprisingly, there are also more draws than previous seasons.

Question is whether this is helping Albion. The fact that all 20 games are close reflects the closenees of the division, but also that perhaps we have found the way to get the right side of the margin this season. Is it greater confidence, 4-4-2, luck, greater resilience, or some other factors? It certainly isn't lack of injuries.
