Chris Hughton*has backed Albion to stay in promotion contention – with or without another striker in January.
The Seagulls are keen to add to their attacking options when the transfer window opens and Argentinian Jonathan Calleri is still on their list of targets.
Hughton is, however, happy with the firepower at his disposal, which will be increased early in 2016 by the return from injury of Sam Baldock.
Manchester United loanee James Wilson, Bobby Zamora and Tomer Hemed all scored in last Saturday’s comeback win against Charlton and Dutchman Elvis Manu is waiting in the wings.
Hughton’s pool of strikers could be affected by the terms of Wilson’s youth loan for the rest of the season, which gives United the right of recall after 28 days.

Hughton said: “We will be among a lot of teams that, come January, will be linked with players because that is the nature of the window and you know that is the last opportunity you are able to bring players in.
“We’ll assess any areas that we feel we need to strengthen. I think he’ll (Calleri) be just one of a good few names that we’ll possibly be linked with but at the minute we’ve got a very good, competitive squad.
“If we felt we needed to make additions then we’ll endeavour to do that. If not then we’ll be very happy to continue to compete with the squad we’ve got.
“We’ve got Tomer, Bobby and James Wilson who is a very young, exciting prospect that scores goals. And, of course, with Elvis we have got four strikers.
“It depends what happens with James, whether we end up having him for a lot longer period, which we’d be delighted with.”
The Argus first revealed Albion’s interest in Boca Juniors goalscorer Calleri in August and again in October, when head of recruitment Paul Winstanley travelled to Buenos Aires.
Italian giants Inter Milan are also interested and so too, according to reports, are Chelsea.
Inter have more financial muscle than Albion and an emotional pull for a player with Italian ancestry.
In Albion’s favour is the prospect of regular football with a stepping stone club that could be in the Premier League next season and an outstanding infrastructure, the like of which Calleri has not been accustomed to at Boca and would not, in terms of training facilities, experience even with the Serie A leaders.
