Aren't there some artists who are against this?

a redundant question, there's always someone against development.

i just hope they build them on stilts.

Good news for Lewes ...more crustys heading to Brighton.
Its a run down industrial estate that basically the crustys pay little or no rent and go on marches and wjen they run out of money run home to mummy and daddy for a bit more of there allowance which they get so mummy and daddy can live peacefully in there nice big house .
It will be quite nice having seen the plans.

Any white people with dreadlocks and a multicoloured van over there by any chance? ???

Excellent news. The opponents don't have a viable alternative to put forward. The site is an unhealthy mix of derelict buildings that need to be replaced before they collapse completely. The only option that has any practical chance of happening is the one that has now been given planning permission by the National Park Authority.

Of course it will. Lewes is our County Town.

Build on stilts that do the trick
The site is a brownfield site that was concreted over when the ironworks was built centuries back. So there is no loss of any absorbent floodplain. And improved flood defences are part of the package.

Yes but flooded badly in 2000. Improving river bank can only do so much..Surely nothing can be done where river goes under Cliffe Bridge. If as is widely believed we are in for more extreme weather. Building houses on this area is risky at best, foolish I would say. I hope all potential purchasers are made aware of risks. However I can`t see developer advertising "Buy your new house and you may well struggle to insure it as high risk of flooding".
I will be advising against anyone buying these properties.
