Elvis Manu

Did anyone else see the puppy dog eyes on Elvis Manu when Nathan Jones signalled for our second substitution yesterday?

Both Manu and van La Parra were warming up close to the North Stand, Manu heard the call, looked up, then point to himself followed by vLP to figure who Nathan wanted. Manu then realised it was vLP that would come on. He looked like a bully had taken his favourite toy, and was too proud to go back to the bench. I felt so sorry for the lad.

vLP then came on to make a decisive assist, an amazing moment. However, what does this mean for Manu? Unlike the free disaster that was Toko, Manu cost £1.5 million in the summer, a lot of money by our standard. Yet he is never given a chance.

Hughton must not rate this guy at all. Huge shame if we get nothing out of this guy considering his cost, and Dutch pedigree.

He was given a chance a few weeks ago and blew it

Somewhere over there...
Manu being on the bench does suggest that CH must see something in him, but the signing of vLP seems to suggest otherwise. Manu will get another chance, whether he comes of the bench when we are a couple up, because of injuries to other player, or even in the FA cup if we get a smaller team.
Surprised we haven't seen Harper on the bench yet, but like Manu, his chance will come.

Elvis undoubtably has talent but sometimes it takes longer to settle in a new country and environment.

He will get his chance but with us flying high at the mo he may have to be a little bit patient

He showed enough the other week to suggest he has something to offer, it is a shame (in a way) that he hasn't had a chance to impress properly, although Hughton's formula is obviously working.

He is clearly a good player, just look at his record last year with Feyenoord.

It's a long season, he'll get his chance.

Long way from writing him off here. If Hughton saw nothing in him he wouldn't make the bench week in week out

Probably needs a run of games but with the performances of the team currently not likely to get that without further injuries

I'm not sur what else CH could be doing with Manu, he's got a 2 wingers who both deserve their starting place in the side. Manu has to wait for his opportunity and seize it.

We have a few players who can change a game but only allowed 3 subs. Manu will get his chance, there's still a long old season ahead

Yes, I do see that, but if the 4 players currently injured were starting, would he still be on the bench? You have to say that as CH sees him in training every day, and is aware of what he can(not) do, there has to be a reason. Of course one should be positive and hope that his chance will come, but after all this time and the acquisition of two extra forwards on loan, then you have to doubt it.

Hughton's been fairly upfront about not rotating the squad. We have Murphy and March who are both on fire and strikers who are scoring (even Hemed now!), so hard to see him get a decent run out unless one of those gets injured or it's the FA Cup. The subbing yesterday was a tactical one.

It must be difficult for CH.You want to give a guy a chance but if he isn't performing to high level in training (and his cameo performances from the bench have not exactly uprooted trees) then what do you do?

I feel worse for Goldsen. He was player of year for Shrewsbury, left them with best wishes to play at a higher level, and has not had a sniff. Despite Dunk's mare performance yesterday, Hun is ahead of Goldsen if Dunk dropped.

Guess it comes with the territory in football. Both will probably play in FAC in Jan. Be good if we get an easy peasy R3 game so they could get at least a couple of matches in.
