Corners

I haven't made too many games this season but I thought our set play (Kayal shot apart) and corner taking was pretty shit yesterday. Do we actually have a player who can take a decent corner because we didn't threaten from them at all yesterday, and we had a lot of them.

Am I allowed a small moan about the unbeaten top of the table Seagulls?

It was worse (corner wise) against Birmingham as Murphy overhit everything.

Definitely an area for improvement.

Been saying this all season. We would have won games by more than one goal if we got more clinical from set pieces. It's not a moan just an observation.

That's not a moan, that is constructive criticism.

And I agree, we are and have been for a long time poor at corners.

If we are to continue to over hit our corners why do we never have somebody starting from the back to run onto the ball. We all tend to just sit in the six yard box, inevitably not winning the ball, why are we also not sitting outside of the six yard box and again running onto the ball. Far too often we loose out from the knock on's. Obviously the management team know what they are doing hey, "we are top" although it just seems obvious after each corner we are awarded. Agree we should be more threatening.

The Birmingham game was probably the best I'd seen us take corners in 20-odd years of following the Albion

Couldn't agree more also, if there's one player we're missing it's a dead-ball specialist. I know it's not the done thing to bemoan an Albion team that's top of the league but when we repeat the same errors, from corners and most of our free kicks, then something needs to be done in this part of our game. Solly has been inspirational in the last few games but his corner taking is at best sporadic, if our corners fall short or are overhit on a regular basis then surely we need to have one player positioned at the near post and one at the far post...simples! How many times does that seem to happen, well i've been to all the home games this season and it doesn't, please sort this one area out Chris.
As for the rest, well it's just amazing how well we've done so far, keep it going.

That was against Shrewsbury.

No it wasn't, it was against Chesterfield - Stevenson looked most aggrieved.

And I agree that are corners are terrible: Solly really shouldn't be taking them. The best dead ball specialist at the club is Holla but he's never going to be an option. Towell looks like he takes a mean free kick so he may well get some opportunities. It was something we could well under Hyypia - weren't we second for goals from set-pieces in the Champ?

We've looked threatening rarely from corners so far. I think it's partly about the consistency of delivery, and partly about the movement happening in the area just before it's taken. To be honest, we've often looked more dangerous playing it short, and the likes of Bruno whipping it in from a different angle. Not sure why this is, as clearly with Tomer, Bobby, Dunk and others we do have aerial capability

I do wish someone would tell our wonderful captain to rest his legs and have a little catch up with Inigo while the corners are being taken. Can anyone recall the last time he scored from a corner?
