Brighton1. Joe Corrigan- Former Manchester City and England keeper who joined the Seagulls from Seattle Sounders in a £20,000 deal early in the 1983/84 campaign.
2. Kieran O’Regan- Had an effort well saved by Nicky Johns and contributed to Case’s final goal by breaking from deep in his own half. Made 31 league appearances in 1983/84, scoring a stupendous fleet-footed goal at Sheffield Wednesday in February.
3. Graham Pearce- The left-back from the FA Cup Final lost his place to new signing Chris Hutchings in November.
4. Tony Grealish- The tenacious midfielder made 25 league appearances in his final season at the Albion. Sadly died in April 2013, aged 56, after battling against cancer.
5. Eric Young- A superb signing from Slough, who was one of three Youngs that played for Albion that season.
6. Steve Gatting- Made 35 league appearances in 1983/84, mainly as centre-back.
7. Jimmy Case- This was his one and only hat-trick for the Seagulls. His third was a thundering shot from the edge of the area that was in the back of the net before Nicky Johns had time to move.
8. Gordon Smith- Had scored the previous Brighton hat-trick in 1980, with Albion coming from 3-0 down at Coventry. Tucked in a Terry Connor cross to make it 3-0.
9. Gerry Ryan- Restored to the side having been absent since the opening day of the season. Scored the opening two goals before Case stole the limelight.
10. Terry Connor- Won over doubters at the Goldstone with an electric performance. His speed down the wing caused havoc. Scored with a header just before half time.
11. Gary Howlett- Made 15 league appearances in 1983/84, scoring twice.
Sub 12. Michael Ring (for Case)- This was the first of Ring’s three substitute appearances in the campaign.

Charlton

1. Nicky Johns- A very busy keeper who also denied Connor and O’Regan, as well as picking the ball out of his net seven times.
2. Paul Curtis- Right-sided defender who scored the winner at Fulham in December, giving Charlton their first away league win in 18 months.
3. Kevin Dickenson- Left-back formerly with Spurs but had no first team appearances for the White Hart Lane side. Ever-present in 1983/84.
4. Steve Gritt- A future Albion manager who helped Brighton to the great escape of 1996/97.
5.Steve Dowman- Spent two years with the Addicks before moving on to play for Newport and Cambridge United.
6.Les Berry- A defender who made 28 appearances for Brighton in 1986/87.
7.Carl Harris- Almost won a penalty at the Goldstone in April 1981 playing for Leeds but no such sight of goal here.

8.Derek Hales-
Scored 148 league goals in two spells with Charlton Athletic.
9.Ronnie Moore- Hartlepool’s current boss. Made 62 league appearances for Charlton between 1983 and 1985.
10.Peter Mountford- Midfielder who made 11 appearances for Charlton in 1983/84. Later joined Leyton Orient in 1984.
11.Mark Aizelwood- After four years at Luton, he joined Charlton and was the club’s player of the season in 1984/85 and 1985/86.
Sub 12 Chris Jones- Former Spurs forward who joined Charlton from Crystal Palace in the previous month.
