Tomer Hemed has received a vote of confidence from Albion’s management team as they ponder whether to promote on-loan James Wilson to the starting eleven.
Hemed, still the unbeaten Seagulls’ top marksman, has gone ten games without scoring since the last of his five goals in mid-September.
Chris Hughton and his backroom staff have reassured the Israeli centre-forward he continues to make an important contribution to the promotion push ahead of struggling Charlton’s visit today.
Coach Nathan Jones said: “Tomer’s not scored as frequently as he did at the beginning of the season but his performances are outstanding.
“We evaluate all of them. We’ve had him up and showed him the movements he’s doing.
“And we keep reiterating to him his goals will return because he’s doing all the right stuff.
“Ironically, other people should be scoring because of what he’s doing.”
Hughton has two from three to select from up front after Wilson made his debut on loan from Manchester United in place of matchwinner Bobby Zamora in the second half of last Saturday’s win against Birmingham at the Amex.

Jones said: “Players like James Wilson will always have a chance to start, especially as he has come out of Man United on loan. To be fair, Tomer and Bobby are in really good form, as was Sam (Baldock) before that.”

Jones is happy that Albion’s promotion prospects continue to be talked down.He said: “I don’t think we are actually under the radar, because we are still unbeaten and that’s been talked about quite a lot. But if people fancy your Derbys, your Middlesbroughs, no problem whatsoever for us. We know the work we do and we are proud of it.”
