Last week I had to take a drive to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to see about a recluse who had previously lived near Chicago. I was able to rule him out of an investigation. I went ahead to the shores of Lake Superior/Gitche Gumee while listening to the Gordon Lightfoot song. It was a very humbling yet renewing experience. Very very wet and sometimes snowy.

Great song from a Canadian legend. Sad story too-I remember the incident very well.

For years I thought this referred to a wreck back in the days of sail. It was only in the last few years I've known the song was about the loss of a modern cargo ship
