£10m austerity flight for Dave

Cameron treating himself to a £10m private jet at the taxpayers' expense just ahead of the next round of austerity cuts.
Of course he will justify it (to himself and his lackeys at least).
Of course he will still believe his own rhetoric that we are all in it together.
And of course he will be amazed that those who are merely governed should even question his right to the trappings of power or consider him just another pig at the trough of public service.

Nothing new. Just an eminently literate man taking his lead from a favourite character in a favourite book..............Napoleon in Orwell's Animal Farm.

It's an air force plane which is being converted for the Prime Minister, not his private plane. When Cameron ceases to be the PM, it will be for the next PM.

Currently, it costs the British Government roughly $10,000 per hour to charter planes for the Prime Minister, a source told the British news agency. With the new plane, that cost drops to around $3,000 per hour.

The conversion for ministerial duties would include the addition of 158 passenger seats and an advanced secure communications system.

you should not mention the pig otherwise he will be killing it then shagging it
and lets hope he does not have to go to hospital anytime soon as most rely on bank nurses, and he might have a long, long wait

I was going to post a thread about this a few days ago when the story first broke knowing, of course, that It might well have been overlooked by Bozza as he is so concerned with Mr Corbyn these days.

I would have preferred to have a few more maritime patrol planes rather than a personalised plane for the prime minister, but hey, we are all in this together.

oh as an aside, I heard on the radio the other day that the British army has more horses than main battle tanks these days.

Makes you wonder how Easyjet and Ryanair can possibly make a profit, charging what they charge then. Perhaps the commissioning of services should come under a bit more scrutiny.
'A source' is pretty vague, too. Could be Cameron's PA for all we know!

I'm no fan of Cameron, but sounds like it will save a fair bit of money, no?

Quite.

If this was a Labour PM making this decision, all the Daily Mail / Express / Sun would be slaughtering him for it, and Labour supporters would be rightly holding it up as a disgusting misrepresentation of the truth.

If it saves money and will be state property, what is the issue?

Seems cheap. There is talk here that the well known world statesman, Jacob Zuma, is looking to acquire a new presidential plane that carries a whole 30 passengers for the equivalent of 181m quid.

No.
It will save £7k per hour of flying time at a cost of £10m..........that's a lot of trips to Brussells (assuming the train at £250 in premier class carriage is just too inconvenient)

CEO and Editor-In-Chief Henry Blodget is a Yale history graduate who previously worked on Wall Street until he was charged with securities fraud in 2003. He agreed to a permanent ban from the securities industry, payment of a $2 million fine and disgorgement of $2 million.

Source sound as a bell then!

Of course the PM can't use normal public planes. There's a security issue for starters.
So public planes are not safe enough, so the PM has to have a special safer one? All in it together, Davey boy!

It's been that way for decades whoever is in office.

i don't think he has to get a plane to show himself up for the kooont that he is.....upper class , typical ,tory prick..!!

You do realise that all ministers fly separately from the public, no matter if they're tory or labour?
The plane belongs to the RAF, not the government.

I wasn't aware of many European leaders travelling to summits and Euro Parliament etc. by public transport, not even the Labour ones when they reigned. I'm pretty sure they don't travel alone either. Not to mention venues further afield, of course.

Wasn't it Tony Blair that first proposed this.
