Presumably they asked him if he wanted to go, and he said yes. So they thought, "sod off then, you ungrateful oaf" and started looking around elsewhere.

Did we not give Gus permission to speak to Reading at one stage.

It would seem a strange move now but I guess Clarke may see Fulham as having greater potential
