Brighton & Hove Albion women’s manager James Marrs stressed the significance of Sunday’s game away at league leaders Cardiff City in the FA Women’s Premier League Southern Division title race.
*
Albion head into the match sitting third and four points behind the Bluebirds, and Marrs insists his side cannot afford to be even further adrift of the leaders after Sunday.
*
He said, “This is a must-win game. We have put ourselves under pressure in the last three weeks and eventually it had to come to a head.
*
“If we get beaten on Sunday, then we are seven points behind and we can’t afford for that to happen.”
*
The Albion manager is urging his players to re-discover their form in front of goal and to cut out their recent defensive slip-ups.
*
“We are not playing particularly badly. Individual mistakes are costing us and there have been too many of them.
*
“We have conceded penalties in each of the last three games and there has also been a dip in form in front of goal.
*
“It’s all about fine margins at the moment. We need to make sure we eradicate these errors because we are playing some good stuff.”
*
Albion (probable squad): Faye Baker, Vicky Ashton-Jones, Catherine Cooper, Deanna Cooper, Phoebe Leitch,* Charlotte Young, Jay Blackie, Kirsty Barton, Lucy Somes, Charley Boswell, Sophie Perry, Kate Natkiel, Amy Taylor, Charlotte Gurr, Megan Fox, Emily Baker.
