Gareth Southgate has raised hopes of Solly March stepping on to the international stage at the Amex.
The England under-21s boss reckons Albion’s winger is in “a good moment” and confirmed he is an option to help break down Switzerland at some stage in tonight’s top-versus-second encounter (5.45pm).
Southgate is aware of March’s bright display last time out at the Amex, when he scored in his club’s 2-1 win over MK Dons and believes this could be the time to give him a run out at home.
March has not yet featured in the Euro 2017 qualifying programme but that could change, especially if England need a goal against a well-organised Swiss outfit.
Southgate told The Argus: “Solly is technically an exciting player.
“He has got pace. As a wide player he retains the ball well too.
“He is definitely somebody who comes into consideration (for tonight). We know it’s a good moment for him with the way he is playing at his club.
“I’ve watched him a couple of times recently and he not only does the job with the ball but also without the ball, which is very important if you are going to be a top player.”
Seagulls midfielder Jake Forster-Caskey was looking to earn a midfield start as he trained at Lancing over the weekend.
England must cover for the absence of influential Nathaniel Chalobah, who is banned, and Forster-Caskey is among the options.
England are level with the Swiss at the top of the group after taking seven points from three games.
They are hoping for a crowd of about 15,000 for what could be a pivotal contest in the quest for qualification.
Southgate added: “I think this group will probably go all the way to the last game.”
