Someone has now got to buy an expensive sandwich after their packed lunch has been blown to all parts of the terminal.

"A man has been arrested at Gatwick Airport and the North Terminal has been evacuated as a precautionary measure after a suspicious item was found.

The airport said the terminal had been fully evacuated on the landside, before passport control.

Police were called at about 09:30 GMT after "suspicious actions" by a man. A spokesman said Explosive Ordnance Disposal specialists were at the scene."

Hope it's nothing serious. There will naturally be a period of heightened tension/nervousness after last night - always the same for a while before things settle down a bit. I was going to put 'return to normal' but I'm not entirely sure where we go from here. As you say, worrying times.

Police have carried out a controlled explosion at*Gatwick airport*after a man appeared to discard a firearm and other possessions in a dustbin.
