The actual offer seems to be different from the original advert. Instead of the porcelain, it's got an additional bottle in a box, and the food differs slightly. Which did you order, Bozza?

Good spot! I got the new offer, which is probably for the best as we don't need the crockery and I was thinking I might just end up taking it to a charity shop. The extra bottle of wine and accessories will be more use to me! It might be wrapped up as an emergency present at Christmas for when someone unexpectedly give me something (probably a bottle of wine).

My brother is getting the box and accessories.... saves me a few quid for his present...he is rarely grateful anyway...

In my experience with wine you get what you pay for.

Very occasionally more.

If you're paying £5 for a bottle of wine, that equates to about 50p on the wine itself. £2.05 is duty, 84p is VAT, 83p is a typical retail margin, 55p is a realistic bottling cost and 23p a fair figure to allow for the distribution. Spend £8 and although some of those figures stay the same you're actually spending £2 on the wine - in other words, you might expect a product that's four times as good for just 60% more outlay.

We've got some great independent wine shops in Sussex: Butlers, Quaff, 10 Green Bottles, Hennings, South Down Cellars etc etc ... well worth seeking out at this time of year, regardless of how much you know about wine.
