Jack Harper*has finally made his Albion debut – three months after causing a stir by deciding to sign for them.
The ‘Kid From Madrid’ made a lively cameo appearance as a substitute in the last 15 minutes of a 1-1 draw for the under-21s against league leaders West Brom at Tamworth last night.
The versatile Scotland youth international forward joined the Seagulls on a two-year contract in July amid strong interest from Premier League Stoke and other clubs.
He had a knee injury when he signed and it has taken until now to clear up for him to be ready for action.
Harper, born in Malaga after his Scottish parents moved to the Costa del Sol, was at Real Madrid for six years.
The 19-year-old, a prolific regular in the junior sides of the Spanish giants, is aiming to force his way into manager Chris Hughton’s first team plans this season.
Hughton said when he signed: “He has a lot of potential, is a skilful type, with a good eye for goal, and can operate as a striker or playing just off of a striker. We hope we can give him the platform to realise his undoubted potential.”
Harper is set to make his home debut at the Amex when the under-21s meet West Ham on Monday (7pm).
Meanwhile, Albion are waiting for the results of a scan and specialist’s verdict on the feared knee ligament damage sustained by Gaetan Bong in the closing stages of Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Preston at the Amex.
The Seagulls were being linked last night with West Brom’s Sebastien Pocognoli as a loan replacement but The Argus understands a switch to the Amex for the Belgium international is unlikely.
