Amex date not the only bonus for Albion Women [The Argus]

James Marrs reckons Albion Women’s date at the Amex is a massive indication of the progress they are making.
And it is not the only one they have had this week.
The Seagulls’ chef executive Paul Barber revealed in his programme notes on Tuesday that the women’s team will play a league match at the Amex for the first time.
They will take on Charlton on Sunday, December 6, the day after the clubs’ respective men’s teams clash at the same venue in the Championship.
That promises to be a major event for boss Marrs and his team.
But their latest league win, 3-2 at reigning divisional champions Portsmouth last Sunday, was significant too as Albion stayed top of Premier League south.
Although the scoreline was closer than their 3-1 success at the same venue in a recent League Cup tie, the performance was more impressive.
Albion were perhaps fortunate to take the cup tie to extra-time whereas this time goals from Kate Natkiel, Lucy Somes and Amy Taylor rewarded their control over 90 minutes, although Pompey pulled one back deep into added time..
Marrs said: “Last year we didn’t accumulate enough points against the bigger teams, which cost us at the end.
“We hope our form against the lower teams can continue to be as good as last year and we get more points against the top sides.
“Portsmouth had tended to be a little bit of a bogey side for us but we have put that to bed and I think that showed in the second game “The first game was actually a lot tighter.
“On Sunday we gave them the first goal with an error and the second was somewhat dubious with a referee’s decision.
“I think we have moved on and got over the Portsmouth hoodoo as such.”
Albion take their unbeaten record to lowly QPR on Sunday and Marrs warned: “They know what we are about. We have played them twice already and they tried two different sets of tactics against us that we are aware of.
“It serves up a different test. It’s another huge game.”
Midfielder Orla Dimond could get game time and striker Lisa Fulgence is not far away as they both recover from serious knee injuries.
Marrs said: “Lisa scored 24 goals the year before last, just before she got injured, so she is a huge return for us.
“We have also got Orla, who is a central midfield player, so we are looking stronger. We are looking to get them game time.

“Orla is a bit ahead of Lisa and she will probably get some game time this weekend. We are looking at maybe a couple more weeks for Lisa, depending on how her training goes.”Which all bodes well. Especially with that big Amex date to come.
Marrs admitted: “It’s huge for us in terms of trying to get supporters to our games and putting us out there.
“It’s a reward for the girls because they have been really grafting hard for the last two years trying to push us forward.
“This is another big step, an indicator as to how far we have come as a women’s section and as a team.”
