Albion boss Chris Hughton has saluted the penalty box quality of Bobby Zamora which turned a draw into a win for the second game running for his Championship leaders.
Zamora came off the bench again to earn the Seagulls a 2-1 victory against Bristol City at the Amex last night, a repeat of Saturday’s scenario at Leeds.
The 34-year-old club legend controlled and volleyed in the rebound when a Dale Stephens shot was blocked after another expert finish also clinched two extra points for Albion at Elland Road three days earlier.
It was Zamora’s first home goal for 12 years and Hughton told The Argus: “That’s what Bobby does.
“Bobby’s used to being in positions in the box and he has experience and quality.
“He’s a different type of player, we all know that, from what he was some years ago but he has adapted his game and he knows best the type of player he is.”
Bristol boss Steve Cotterill was dismayed by referee Iain Williamson’s decision at 1-1 to book Luke Freeman for a dive instead of awarding a penalty for a tackle by Uwe Huenemeier.
Cotterill said it was “nailed on” as Zamora went on to seal Albion’s eighth win by the odd goal in 12 unbeaten matches.
Hughton said: “The referee was very close to it. If it’s one he has got wrong then that’s part and parcel of the game. We’ve been in that position on a lot of occasions.”
Albion remain four points clear at the top from Birmingham, one of Hughton’s former clubs, and six ahead of Reading in third place.
