Glorious stuff. Curious to see what, if anything, is coming Plantini's way as well.

Not quite yet - only a recommendation to suspend so far. Not sure who has to approve it - probably Blatter!

BBC saying he IS suspended, albeit provisionally. "Fifa president Sepp Blatter has been provisionally suspended for 90 days."

They also say " Members of Fifa's ethics committee met this week after the Swiss attorney general opened criminal proceedings against Blatter, 79, last month. A final decision is likely to be made on Friday by Hans Joachim Eckhert, the head of Fifa's ethics adjudicatory chamber. "

I'd be amazed if this wasn't confirmed by the head of the Ethics Committee. FIFA has little enough credibility left, the Sponsors will go apeshit if the commitee doesn't confirm the suspension and blame it all on Blatter.

As guilty as Blatter is there are plenty of other culprits. Watch FIFA hang Blatter out to dry as a scapegoat.

Couln't happen to a nicer guy.

Looks like he's being hoisted with his own petard. He created the Ethics Committee.

I do believe the reason why he's been hanging on is to try and leave with some credibility restored. The problem is that, even if he hasn't committed any wrongdoing himself, he must have known at least some of what was going on. It's best just to try and clear his name of any accusations himself, whilst resigning. He has to come to terms with this.

"This is provisional for 90 days but he is not actually suspended."

I'm glad they've made that clear, then ...

One word from Coca-Cola and the whole thing comes tumbling down.

Shirley Blatter was summoned to appear in front of The (lack of) Ethics Committee.

It's amazing that when the people with the money start talking, things actually happen......

And it can't be a co-incidence that the three sponsors that spoke out were American companies ..... I wonder if they've been dropped the wink by the American investigators as to what they have found ?

Platinis chances of succeeding Sepp must be dwindling, if only by association.
Fair enough. The only suitable successors to Blatter will have to be people who have never in any way been associated with FIFA - the whole thing is so sceptic, that anyone in it at the moment is suspect.

From the same article:

The ethics committee had been meeting in Zurich since Monday and have yet to make a decision on Platini, 60. It is also examining a payment of two million Swiss francs (£1.35m) that Platini received in 2011 for working for Blatter. The Frenchman has provided information to the criminal investigation but said he has done so as a witness.

Swiss prosecutors said he is being treated as "in between a witness and an accused person" as they investigate corruption at world football's governing body.

He will probably set up some sort of 'appeals committee' , headed by himself of course, to look into any decisions taken by the ethics committee.

This seems the most likely outcome. I remember the hundreds of FIFA staff giving Sepp his seemingly hour long round of applause when he announced his temporary resignation - FIFA can't just get rid of Sepp because Sepp is FIFA, Sepp is football and Sepp is still in charge.
