Brighton & Hove Albion women turn their attentions away from the league on Sunday when they face Portsmouth in the Premier League Cup at Privett Park, kick-off 2pm.

Manager James Marrs has hailed his side’s terrific start to the season and challenged his team to improve on the midweek performance against Lewes.

He said, “The start has been really good and the morale in the camp has been excellent. It’s even higher than what it was last season.
*
“The players are all working hard for each other and if you want to compete with the top sides then you’ve got to work hard, which we have done in every single game.

“The Portsmouth game is a good one to be involved in, psychologically it’s a big draw for us and we’re looking forward to it.

SOPHIE PERRY has returned from international duty with the Republic of Ireland, after playing the full 90 minutes in the side’s 2-0 defeat to Finland at the Tallaght Stadium on Monday.

A crowd of 2,905 people watched the Euro 2017 qualifier, as goals from Emma Koivisto and Linda Sallstrom earned Finland the victory.

THE DEVELOPMENT SQUAD are also in cup action on Sunday when they take on Chichester City in the Premier League Reserve Cup first round.

Amy Merricks’s side go into the fixture following a superb 4-1 win away at Lewes last Sunday.

*ALBION’S ACADEMY SIDE, in partnership with Worthing College, were narrowly beaten 3-2 by the John Madejski Academy on Wednesday.

Valentine Pursey scored both goals for the academy team, including one from the penalty spot in a narrow defeat.

Several players from the under-15s have been selected to take part in the first FA National Performance Camp this weekend, with a view to being selected for the England under-15 squad.

HOLLIE OLDING joins up with the England women’s under-17 squad on Sunday, ahead of European Championship qualifying matches against Croatia, Estonia and Poland.
The Lionesses play their first game against Croatia on Wednesday 30th September, before facing Estonia on Friday 3rd October and Poland on Monday 5th October.
All three matches take place in Estonia in a four-team mini-tournament and the top two teams will progress to the elite round of qualification for next year's finals.
