  • Charlotte Gurr and Deanna Cooper on target for Albion
  • The Seagulls remain top of the league
  • James Marrs’s side are unbeaten in eight matches this season
  • Albion claim a league double over Lewes
Brighton & Hove Albion women extended their winning run to six matches with a 2-0 victory over Lewes in a Sussex derby at the Dripping Pan.
*
The Seagulls remain top of the Premier League Southern Division table with 19 points from seven games and are still unbeaten this season.
*
The game began in a lively fashion, as Lucy Somes saw her shot from distance rise over the crossbar before Deanna Cooper gave Albion the lead after seven minutes.
Somes's initial free-kick was saved by Lewes keeper Lauren Dolbear, but the shot-stopper pushed the ball straight into the path of Cooper, who headed home for her third goal of the season.
*
Lewes sought to restore parity to the scoreline straight away, as former Seagull Cherelle Khassal’s shot was saved by Faye Baker.
*
But Albion began to assert their dominance on the game, and Dolbear had to be alert to push away Kate Natkiel’s effort before dealing with two attempts by Charlotte Gurr.
*
Amy Taylor hit the side-netting following a sweeping Albion move, before Gurr’s strike cannoned off the cross and Natkiel could not make a decent connection with the follow up.
*
The Seagulls doubled their advantage just a minute before the interval when Natkiel’s cross from the right-hand side was slotted home by Gurr at the far post.

James Marrs’s side could have scored a third goal when Gurr’s shot was cleared into the path of Taylor, who blasted a shot over the bar.
*
The hosts had a spell of pressure midway through the second half, as Khassal’s cross was met by Katie McIntyre but her effort rebounded off the woodwork.
*
Gurr continued to be central to Albion’s attacking play and her corner found Cooper inside the box, but the defender could not make a decent connection with the cross.
*
Kirsty Barton was next to try her luck from distance, but her looping shot did not trouble Dolbear.
*
Khassal was involved in the thick of the action again for Lewes shortly afterwards, as her strike went wide of Baker’s left-hand post.
*
Brighton looked to add extra gloss to the scoreline in the closing stages when Taylor's cross from the right-hand side went across the face of the Lewes goal and eluded substitute Charlotte Markham.Charlotte Young then had a shot blocked inside the box, but the Seagulls did not add to their first-half tally and claimed another 2-0 win over their local rivals.
*
