  • Albion claim a league double over Lewes

Brighton & Hove Albion women extended their winning run to six matches with a 2-0 victory over Lewes in a Sussex derby at the Dripping Pan.
*
The Seagulls remain top of the Premier League Southern Division table with 19 points from seven games and are still unbeaten this season.
*
The game began in a lively fashion, as Lucy Somes saw her shot from distance rise over the crossbar before Deanna Cooper gave Albion the lead after seven minutes.
Somes's initial free-kick was saved by Lewes keeper Lauren Dolbear, but the shot-stopper pushed the ball straight into the path of Cooper, who headed home for her third goal of the season.
*
Lewes sought to restore parity to the scoreline straight away, as former Seagull Cherelle Khassalís shot was saved by Faye Baker.
*
But Albion began to assert their dominance on the game, and Dolbear had to be alert to push away Kate Natkielís effort before dealing with two attempts by Charlotte Gurr.
*
Amy Taylor hit the side-netting following a sweeping Albion move, before Gurrís strike cannoned off the cross and Natkiel could not make a decent connection with the follow up.
*
The Seagulls doubled their advantage just a minute before the interval when Natkielís cross from the right-hand side was slotted home by Gurr at the far post.
