Corey Taylor scored a brace, while a goal each from Callum O'Hare, Rushian Hepburn-Murphy and Easah Suliman secured a convincing victory for Aston Villa.

Albion then had Remy Meyers sent off in the second half, as Buckman’s side ended the match with ten men.

He told seagulls.co.uk, “After a good result last week, I spoke to the players about having consistency and that needs to remain the message.

“We were well below the standards that we set for ourselves and if you do that at category one level, then other teams will take advantage.

“Villa are a good side and they’re very good at what they do. They made a fast start to the game and we struggled to recover from that really.

“Remy got sent off early in the second half and we were playing catch-up by then after making a slightly improved start to the second period.

“After the Reading game, we spoke about handling key situations and moments of the game well and becoming consistent in those areas.

“That’s something we need to look at again following Saturday.”

Despite the result, the under-18 coach refused to be too despondent and says his squad will be strengthened in the coming weeks.

“We still have a few players to come back; we’re still waiting on three players to get international clearance, but the squad continues to grow and I’m sure that, moving forward, there will be competition for places, which will have an impact on the team.

“We have had some younger players involved during the early part of the season and that’s excellent, because we want players to step up to the next level across the whole academy.

“Now we just get back to basics and to the fundamentals. Once we get back to doing the basics well, we’ll work our way back to the form we know we can achieve.”
