It was a world-class event in a world-class stadium, delivered by a world-class team!"
Martin Perry

Brighton & Hove Albion executive director Martin Perry says the 2015 Rugby World Cup has put the club’s stadium on the world map.
*
The Amex, known as the Brighton Community Stadium during the tournament, played host to Japan’s famous victory over two-time world champions South Africa on Saturday, in what is being called one of the biggest shocks in sporting history.
*
Perry, who was instrumental in bringing the Rugby World Cup to Brighton, said, “Our stadium has already drawn lots of plaudits in England and across Europe, but the manner of Japan’s triumph on Saturday has now given our home a global audience.
*
“It was one of those moments in sport that immediately goes down in history and it will be talked about for years to come, and whenever anyone watches that last-gasp try they will be watching it being scored at our stadium.
*
“Not only did the result draw extra attention, but the general feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and yet again the stadium has put on a wonderful event.”

The Albion director then added that Japan’s late winner was reminiscent of Will Buckley’s 97th minute goal in Albion’s dramatic victory over Doncaster in 2011.
*
“Buckley’s winner has been cemented in the memories of every Albion fan, and now the stadium has been part of another one of those occasions - but on an even larger scale.
*
“Not only was Japan’s try delivered in the final dramatic moments of the game, just like Buckley’s goal, it was also scored at the same end and the celebrations were in exactly the same corner!”

Perry was also delighted with how the event went, believing the weekend couldn’t have gone any better.
*
“The two matches were both highly entertaining and unforgettable, and as events they went very smoothly.
*
“But even if I had written the script for Saturday’s game I couldn’t have created what happened.
*
“The board, the club staff and especially our fans worked extremely hard for all those years to deliver our stadium and we should all be very proud of what we have achieved.

The Brighton Community Stadium saw Japan stun South Africa 34-32 on Saturday before Samoa triumphed over USA by 25 points to 16 in the midday kick-off on Sunday.
