Brighton & Hove Albion women extended their winning run to five matches, after a convincing 6-1 victory over C & K Basildon. The Seagulls' run of six consecutive clean sheets was ended when Zoe Rushen gave the Essex side a suprise lead, but goals from Charlotte Gurr, Kate Natkiel, Kirsty Barton, Jay Blackie, Deanna Cooper and Amy Taylor ensured the hosts cruised to victory.
*
Basildon created the first chance of the game when Hannah Porter fired over the bar from Amy Nash’s free-kick inside the opening four minutes.
Lucy Somes was the first player to threaten for Albion, but her strike was comfortably saved by Cherie Rowlands.
*
But the visitors, who had scored in every game so far this season, continued that run when Rushen rifled the ball past Albion keeper Faye Baker from a Nash set-piece after nine minutes.
*
Baker was called into action again to save another Nash free-kick, but the Seagulls restored parity to the scoreline in the 15th minute.
*
Phoebe Leitch showed plenty of determination down the right-hand side and found Gurr inside the box, who slotted the ball into an unguarded net.
*
Albion were ahead three minutes later when Somes threaded the ball into the path of Natkiel and the latter clinically dispatched her shot past Rowlands.
*
But Basildon still carried a threat themselves and Rushen was denied a second goal when Baker produced a superb save to tip the ball onto the crossbar and to safety.
*
The Seagulls established a firm grip on the match in the 31st minute, after Barton unleashed an unstoppable looping drive past Rowlands from the edge of the box to make it 3-1.
*
The lead could have been even more emphatic going into the interval, but this time Rowlands was on hand to keep out Cooper’s header at the near post.

*

*
In almost an identical position to her previous opportunity, the forward made no mistake on this occasion and shot home past Rowlands to make it 6-1.
*
