  • Albion secure their third win of the season
  • Ian Buckman’s side bounce back from 4-2 defeat to Arsenal
  • The Seagulls host Aston Villa on Saturday
Brighton & Hove Albion under-18 coach Ian Buckman was pleased with the resilience of his players following a 2-1 win over Reading on Saturday.
Goals from Thomas Byrne and Jordan Maguire-Drew ensured Albion returned back to winning ways following a 4-2 defeat to Arsenal the previous Saturday,
Buckman told seagulls.co.uk, “It’s always nice to win games, but most importantly it was a good performance that continued from the game on Saturday.
“We went 1-0 up through Thomas Byrne five minutes before half time and then hit the bar, before creating at least another two or three other opportunities in the first half.
“We were really pleased with our first-half efforts, but we sat a bit deep allowing Reading to come on to us a bit and they equalised after the hour.
“At that point it was a good test, obviously having led against Arsenal, we had worked hard last week about being in similar situations again and the lads kept calm, stayed in the game and Jordan scores with 15 minutes to go with a great strike.
“He caught the goalkeeper off guard with a great strike from 35 yards and it was pleasing that the lads focused themselves defensively and managed to get the win.”

The under-18 coach then looked ahead to Saturday’s home match with Aston Villa and is now eager for the side to continue their improvement following the 4-2 defeat to Arsenal.“We’ve got Aston Villa this week, which is another good fixture and it’s another chance to continue the process with the work we’ve been doing.
“We’re not the finished article after this victory, but it’s good progress after the Arsenal game.
*
“It’s important that the lads start to show consistency in the defensive and attacking areas moving forward.”
